Everyone knows someone with an outrageous sex story, but should you really believe everything you hear? Here are some sex myths that aren’t true.
- Myth: You can’t get pregnant if you have sex in a hot tub because the heat and chemicals kill sperm.
Fact: You can absolutely get pregnant if you have sex in a hot tub. The water makes it difficult to use a condom without it slipping off or breaking; safe sex in a hot tub is almost impossible. And the temperature and chemicals in the water have no effect on sperm. In fact, the warm temperature makes it easier for the sperm to survive.
- Myth: Using a vibrator desensitizes your clitoris, and can lead to difficulty achieving orgasms.
Fact: An incredibly long session with your favourite toy may leave you with a temporary, tingling numbness but it’s likely caused by overstimulation. The sensation will pass and you’ll be as sensitive as you’ve always been to both your toy and your partner.
- Myth: Drinking Mountain Dew decreases a man’s sperm count, due to its high levels of caffeine and Tartrazin (Yellow Dye #5)
Fact: No one is really sure where this myth came from but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Coffee contains 4 times more caffeine than Mountain Dew and there’s no proof that excessive caffeine intake effects a man’s sperm count. And it would be physically impossible to drink enough Mountain Dew for the Tartrazin to have any effect on fertility.
